Meet Eric
A neighbor who has spent two decades investing in San Gabriel.
Eric L. Chan has called San Gabriel home for the last 20 years — raising a family here, building a career here, and serving this community in elected office for more than a decade.
By profession, Eric is an accountant and property manager. He holds a degree in Business‑Economics and Accounting from the University of California, Los Angeles — training he brings to every budget line, contract, and long‑range plan that comes before the Council.
He was elected to the San Gabriel City Council in November 2022 and currently serves as Mayor. Before that, he spent nine years as an elected Water Board Director for the San Gabriel County Water District, working on the infrastructure most residents never think about until something goes wrong.
That combination — a numbers professional who has actually run public infrastructure — is what he brings to City Hall.

Three things worth getting right.
San Gabriel doesn't need a hundred slogans. It needs steady focus on the handful of things that decide whether people feel safe here, whether businesses can survive here, and whether the whole community sees itself reflected in its city.
Public Safety
Residents should feel safe walking their block at night and opening their storefront in the morning. That means adequately staffing and supporting our police and fire services, keeping response times short, and pairing enforcement with the lighting, street design, and outreach that prevent problems in the first place.
Business Friendliness
Our small businesses are the tax base, the jobs, and the character of this city. Permits should be predictable, timelines should be short, and City Hall should be a partner rather than an obstacle. Supporting the businesses already here is as important as recruiting new ones.
Cultural Balance
San Gabriel is one of the most diverse cities in the San Gabriel Valley, with a history that runs from the Mission to the immigrant families who built the neighborhoods around it. Every one of those communities deserves a real seat at the table — in city programs, in public celebrations, and in how we plan what comes next.
